Breast Biopsy

Careful sampling or removal of a breast lump for diagnosis — performed sensitively, with attention to both accuracy and a discreet, cosmetic result.

Breast Biopsy

What it is

A breast biopsy obtains tissue from a breast lump or area of concern to establish a diagnosis. Depending on the situation we perform a needle biopsy or surgically remove the lump, always with care for an accurate result and a neat scar.

Who it's for

  • A new or changing breast lump
  • An area flagged on imaging needing tissue diagnosis
  • Patients needing a lump removed and tested
  • Those wanting sensitive, surgeon-led care

The procedure

A needle biopsy is a quick clinic procedure under local anaesthesia; a surgical (excisional) biopsy removes the lump under local or general anaesthesia, with cosmetic closure. The sample is sent for histology.

Recovery & aftercare

Minor soreness and bruising for a few days. Results are discussed with you as soon as histology is available.

Frequently asked

Does a biopsy mean cancer?+
No — most breast lumps are benign. A biopsy is how we find out for certain, which is reassuring far more often than not.
Will it leave a scar?+
A needle biopsy leaves almost none; a surgical biopsy leaves a small, carefully-placed scar.
How soon are results back?+
Histology usually takes a few days, and we discuss the findings with you promptly and clearly.
